Baia Beniamin and VOID Acoustics: Powerful Sound with Respect for the Neighborhood

The challenge faced by Baia Beniamin, an exclusive venue overlooking the Ligurian Sea, was as simple in concept as it was complex in execution: to ensure a top-tier audio system capable of enhancing both fine dining experiences and lively dance nights, all while maintaining respect for the surrounding neighborhood. This is a well-known issue, as there have been complaints and reports in the past.

Baia Beniamin is located in the province of Ventimiglia, just over a kilometer from the French border. It is a stunning venue, an exclusive seaside restaurant with a pristine beach, which can effortlessly transform into a vibrant hotspot for dancing and DJ-led nights.

“In such an exclusive area with neighboring structures, the primary rule was to avoid any disruption from noise pollution, as complaints have been frequent in the past,” explains Stefano Coccia from Vibra Service, the company responsible for installing the new Void Acoustics system.

Stefano and Vibra Service thus opted for a clear strategy: not a massive, centralized system, but a distributed sound setup. The idea was to multiply the sound emission points with compact speakers to achieve sound pressure near the audience without pushing the amplifiers to excessive levels. “We decided to use more speakers, so that each group of people would have a nearby audio source. This way, we didn’t need to push the overall volume too high,” Stefano explains.

The chosen speakers were the Void Acoustics Cyclone 55, mounted on central poles, and the more compact Cyclone 10 for the outer areas. Thanks to their outdoor-rated enclosures with IP-55 protection, these systems are resistant to direct exposure to the elements. The optimized reflex loading on the Cyclone 55 allows the frequency response to extend down to around 70 Hz, with the rest of the work handled by the 18” subwoofers positioned under the benches. Integrating the subwoofers into the furniture structures was also a design choice, with front-facing ducts allowing the enclosures to “breathe” without causing unwanted vibrations.

The amplification and DSP chain is entirely from Void Acoustics, with Bias Q2.5 amplifiers driven via the ArmoníaPlus software (as the VOID Acoustics amplifiers are essentially Powersoft units). A digital matrix was created to manage the different zones of the venue, while local control is provided by a touchscreen interface with a simplified layout, allowing non-technical staff to adjust the levels in specific areas without affecting the overall system calibration.

“We wanted to ensure that even those without technical expertise could intervene without risking any damage. Only volume adjustments, very straightforward,” explains Sergio Caio, Sound & System Engineer at Cracked Studio, who, along with his team, handled the entire process: from design and technical drawings to implementation and commissioning.

The calibration work focused on maximizing acoustic uniformity, despite the challenges of managing multiple sources with complex alignments. The final outcome was deemed highly satisfying, both in terms of performance and practical considerations, with full compliance to noise regulations.

For music management, Baia Beniamin alternates between a professional Pioneer console and a simple iPad running Spotify, depending on the evening's needs. Beyond pure functionality, the choice of Void Acoustics was also driven by aesthetic and brand identity factors. “The owner of the Twiga group is very attached to Void Acoustics, a brand he has used in other venues he owns, and when he acquired the Twiga brand, he wanted the same signature in all his venues because of the design and build quality, which are distinctive features,” concludes Sergio.
