HELVIA ONDA-B Series: In-Ceiling Speakers with Front Bass-Reflex and Smart Installation

The new HELVIA ONDA-B series delivers powerful, full-bodied bass from an extremely compact footprint, thanks to a remarkably clever engineering solution. Here's why.

Traditional open-back ceiling speakers, lacking a sealed rear enclosure, rely on the air volume inside the ceiling cavity to act as an acoustic chamber. This approach makes sound performance, especially low-frequency extension and control, highly dependent on unpredictable variables such as ceiling cavity volume, construction materials and insulation.

To overcome this limitation, the new HELVIA ONDA-B series features a specially engineered cabinet with a high-density molded plastic rear enclosure working in perfect synergy with one or more front-mounted bass-reflex ports.

From an electroacoustic standpoint, this configuration transforms the loudspeaker into a true tuned enclosure system. The first advantage is structural independence: by eliminating rear sound dispersion, unwanted resonances and the influence of the ceiling cavity are effectively removed. At the same time, the front bass-reflex loading maximizes efficiency in the low-mid frequency range, delivering a sound that is noticeably richer, warmer and deeper than traditional open-back models such as the GALA series.

In addition, the sealed enclosure provides excellent vertical acoustic isolation, significantly reducing sound transmission to upper floors in hotels, offices and multi-storey residential buildings.

The range includes coaxial models designed for standard installation requirements, featuring an integrated 70V/100V transformer with direct 8-Ohm connection, reinforced polypropylene woofer and Mylar tweeter. This architecture inherits the transducer configurations and power ratings of the GALA series while delivering enhanced dynamic response.

The lineup includes the ONDA-B520W, equipped with a 5.25" woofer and rated at 20W RMS, the ONDA-B630W, featuring a 6.5" woofer with 30W RMS, and  ONDA-B840W an 8" version delivering 40W RMS, designed for applications requiring higher SPL and greater native low-frequency extension.

At the top of the range sits the ONDA-B660FCW, the flagship model engineered for high-end Hi-Fi installations and demanding distributed audio systems. It clearly stands apart from the rest of the series thanks to premium specifications and installer-oriented design solutions.

Delivering an impressive 60W RMS, it outperforms the other in-ceiling models in terms of acoustic output and dynamic headroom. Premium components include a high-excursion 6" woofer combined with a refined 1.5" silk dome tweeter, ensuring linear dispersion and crystal-clear high-frequency reproduction. Airflow is further optimized through a dual front bass-reflex port design.

Its most practical innovation lies in its front-facing engineering. Both the 4-pin Euroblock signal connector—ideal for loop-through IN/OUT wiring—and the rotary transformer tap selector are conveniently located on the front panel. This strategic design allows installers to perform wiring, impedance adjustments and maintenance inspections directly from below, even after the speaker has been securely installed in the ceiling, simply by removing the magnetic grille.

Beyond its acoustic performance, HELVIA has paid meticulous attention to aesthetics and installation convenience. Every ONDA-B model features the Quick-Fit front-operated cam mounting system with completely concealed fixing screws. The finishing touch is provided by a frameless white micro-perforated metal grille, magnetically attached flush with the ceiling for a clean, elegant and ultra-discreet architectural appearance. The grille can also be fully painted to perfectly match the surrounding interior design.

Whether for distributed commercial installations or premium Hi-Fi systems in residential and hospitality environments, the combination of a sealed enclosure and front bass-reflex technology enables the new ONDA-B series to deliver the warmth and low-frequency presence often missing from traditional in-ceiling speakers, without compromising installation speed or ease.
